History

HITEC University has been conceived as a part of HIT Education City (HITEC). The city has already established instructional programmes at school and college levels. The main objective of educational programmes has been the preparation of youth who can catalyze a well-knit society with accumulation of positive social capital. As a part of the same vision, HIT has undertaken the task of establishing a high quality higher education institution in the name of HITEC University. This has become imperative in view of the expanding frontiers of knowledge which have caused intense global competition in economic development. Since HIT itself is involved in high-level production of machinery and equipment, it is all the more necessary that it receives research support from a knowledge generating institution for improvement, innovation and development. The proposed university is likely to fulfill this role.

Location

Spread over an area of more than 100 acres, HITEC University is in the foot of Margella Hills only 2 km from Taxila city.

Taxila is an ancient city, about 30 km west of the Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi. It is on the border of the Punjab and North West Frontier Province, just off the Grand Trunk Road.

The ancient name of the city was Takshasila which means the “city of cut stones”. It once had the best universities of the world, including the world’s first university: the Takshashila University.

A number of important industries including Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), Heavy Mechanical Complex (HMC), Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POFs), Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), Telephone Industry Pakistan (TIP), FECTO Cement etc. are near the university, providing excellent opportunities for academic-industrial linkages.

HITEC University aims to live up to the historic past of Taxila and become the premier seat of learning in the region and beyond.

From Islamabad/Rawalpindi proceed on the Grand Trunk (GT) Road towards Peshawar. Only 10 km ahead of Sangjani Toll Plaza is the Taxila Bypass. Those traveling on the motorway may use Islamabad, Tarnol or Bahter interchange to come on the GT Road to reach the Taxila Bypass. Turn towards the Taxila Museum, about 2 km on the Museum Road is HITEC University — a combination of huge buildings in red bricks and a white prominent mosque, all enclosed in black-stone boundary wall.
